The lab Beyond five stars
Beyond five stars,
and back again.
Five stars is the version where nothing went wrong. Take one moment past the edge of what seems possible, then work backwards to something a real team could build, and write down why it deserves the investment.
- Stars are creative prompts. They are not ratings, research or a quality score.
- The first walk-through is an authored, hypothetical example. Then try your own moment.
- Your text stays in this browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

1/7 Start with an ordinary moment
Pick one moment in one customer's day. Small and specific beats broad.
Why the return matters most
Going out to eleven stars is the easy, fun half. The work is on the way back: deciding which part of the impossible version a customer would actually feel, what stays behind, and what the smallest honest test would be. A concierge version can teach you what people value without being affordable at scale, and an effortless interface can hide labor, risk or data nobody consented to share.
The thinking behind this sandbox is in the companion build-log, Eleven stars and back.
Where your text goes
Everything you write is saved in this browser's local storage on this device, so it survives moving between stages and reloading the page. The sandbox makes no network requests with your text and has no AI generation behind it. Export and copy are built in your browser. Clearing site data, or a private window, removes it. Like the rest of this site, the page records anonymous page views through Vercel Analytics; those do not include anything you type.

The eleven-star exercise is Brian Chesky's. He walked through it on Invest Like the Best, episode 471 ↗ (from about 36:46 in the feed audio). This sandbox is an independent interpretation and is not affiliated with or endorsed by him or Airbnb. The example company is invented.
